The pelicans came quite close ....

because Isak was throwing fish ....

and the gulls said "Me too!"

Deadvlei, near Sossusvlei, Namibia

Dealvlei (dead flay) or Death Valley was created about a thousand years ago when the dunes shifted and cut off the river that maintained these trees. All that remains is the salt pan and a few trunks.

We were lucky enough to have the whole place to ourselves for an hour or so just as the sun came up.  For company we had a black-back jackal and a pair of pied crows that nest in one of the trees.

We approached Spitzkoppe just after dawn in time to miss the rain but see the rainbow.
