Our photo club here in the Cape, the Helderberg Photo Society, held a photo walk in downtown Cape Town  Saturday morning. We were given assignments such as: an unusual angle -

shoot from the hip - the group -

these shoes were made for walking ..??

another angle -

building details - there are several Art Deco-style buildings around Greenmarket Square

and  interesting windows -
A and O in architecture - 2 in 1 -

more angles -

We met some other people including a little sucker -

a musician playing real good but not for free -

and a couple from somewhere else -

and found out what was on everyone's mind  ---

After the group meeting, we wandered up to the Bo-Kaap area where people who had previously been forbidden to use colourful paint for their houses, went wild!

We had the great luck to be there just as the remaining two 'coon clubs' were gathering in preparation for the final judging at a nearby stadium.

The Happy Boys were obviously sponsored by Die Burger, a local Afrikaans newspaper.

Some got very involved with the colour scheme.

We didn't learn the name of the rival group who dressed in red and yellow but they were confident of winning and started very young.

Note to self: remember to use wider aperture for portraits.

Wednesday: one of our favorite activities in one of our favorite locations - a picnic at Vergelegen among  the 300-year old camphor trees imported from India by the Dutch East India Company around 1700.
